THE HISTORY OF LOUGH LANNAGH
Lough Lannagh's history goes back thousands of years. The earliest traces of human dwellings can be traced to the bronze age and early medieval period. There is evidence of a now submerged crannog
(a raised dwelling area, surrounded by water and sometimes connected with a secret underwater path) in the lake as well as habitations on the lakes shores.
To date a number of bronze age implements have been unearthed and it is estimated that a treasure trove of historical items lie at the bottom of the lake.
Connected to Bilberry lake, within the distance there is a clear view of majestic 'Croagh Patrick'.
